Angeli Joins Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board

HARRISBURG: Ray Angeli was sworn in today as a member of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board during the Board's regular meeting in Harrisburg.

"It's an honor and a privilege to once again serve the people of Pennsylvania,"said Angeli, who served as Secretary of the Department of Community Affairs during the administration of Governor Robert P. Casey Sr. "I look forward to the work that the Board and I will be doing in the coming months to bring gaming to the Commonwealth."

"We are fortunate to have a person like Ray on the Board," said Gaming Control Board Chairman Tad Decker. "His extensive experience in education and state government will be valuable assets to us. My fellow Board members and I are excited to begin working with him right away."

Angeli was sworn in by Kenneth A. Rapp, Deputy Secretary for Regulatory Programs in the Department of State.

Angeli is currently president of Lackawanna College in Scranton, a position he has held since he left state government in 1994.

Before his appointment as Secretary of Community Affairs, he also held the positions of Deputy Secretary for Programs and Director of the Department's Northeast Regional Office.

Before his state government service, Angeli was a career Army officer, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He served two combat tours in Southeast Asia, one as commander of a helicopter company. He served as a Department of Defense Inspector General and as Foreign Area Officer in the U. S. Embassy in Paris. He also was the U.S. Army representative to the Southwest Asia Working Group in the Pentagon.

He earned the Meritorious Service Medal, Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Air Medal, and the Pennsylvania Meritorious Service Medal.

The former chairman of the University of Scranton's Military Science Department, Angeli holds degrees from the University of Nebraska, University of Scranton and Penn State University.
