Pennsylvania Slot Machine Revenue Tops $2.38 Billion In 2013

HARRISBURG, PA:  Even though slot machine gross revenue in Pennsylvania dropped last calendar year, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board reported today that the amount of revenue generated during 2013 was $2.38 billion.

Gross revenue from slot machine gaming for the 2013 calendar year was $2,384,098,225 or 3.5% lower than in calendar year 2012 when gross revenue totaled $2,470,935,316. 

Tax generated from slot machine gaming in 2013 was $1,279,534,011.

Gross slot machine revenue produced at each casino during 2013 compared to 2012, including percentage change, is as follows:

The Board also posted its monthly slot machine revenue report for December which showed a decrease of 8.7% in gross revenue over December of 2012. According to figures posted on the Board’s web site, www.gamingcontrolboard.pa.gov, the play of slot machines at the twelve operating casinos produced $178,059,128 in gross revenue in December 2013, compared to the $195,049,653 in gross revenue generated in December 2012. The average combined number of slot machines operating daily was 26,591 in December 2013 compared to 26,476 in December 2012.

About the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board:

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board was established in 2004 with the passage of Act 71, also known as the Race Horse Development and Gaming Act. Pennsylvania’s first new state agency in nearly 30 years, the Gaming Control Board is tasked to oversee all aspects of the state’s casino industry. The 12 casinos in operation all offer both slot machine and table game gambling, employ over 16,000 people, and collectively generate an average of $4 million per day in tax revenue. A portion of that money is used for property tax reduction to all Pennsylvania homeowners; provide funds to the Commonwealth’s horse racing industry, fire companies, a statewide water and sewer project grant program, and the state’s General Fund; and, established a new stream of tax revenue to local governments that host casinos for community projects.
