Gaming Control Board Extends End Date For Written Public Comment For Philadelphia Casino Licensing

HARRISBURG:    The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board today announced that the period to provide written public comment in the Philadelphia Category 2 licensing matter has been extended to December 31, 2013.  The end date had previously been November 28, 2013. 

A link on the PGCB web site’s home page, www.gamingcontrolboard.pa.gov, under the Quick Links section provides access to information about the licensing and how to submit written comments.

In addition, the PGCB web site contains a significant amount of information about the Philadelphia casino applicants that can assist in providing public comment on this licensing decision.  This includes videos of all public meetings held to date on this licensing matter.

The Board will be holding Suitability Hearings at the Pennsylvania Convention Center over three days on January 28, 2013 (9:00 a.m to 6:00 p.m),  January 29, 2013 (9:00 a.m to 6:00 p.m), and  January 30, 2013 (9:00 a.m to 1:00 p.m).  The hearings are open to the public.  The order of appearance of the five applicants will be announced at a later date.

About the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board:

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board was established in 2004 with the passage of Act 71, also known as the Race Horse Development and Gaming Act. Pennsylvania’s first new state agency in nearly 30 years, the Gaming Control Board is tasked to oversee all aspects of the state’s casino industry. The 12 casinos in operation all offer both slot machine and table game gambling, employ over 16,000 people, and collectively generate an average of $4 million per day in tax revenue. A portion of that money is used for property tax reduction to all Pennsylvania homeowners; provide funds to the Commonwealth’s horse racing industry, fire companies, a statewide water and sewer project grant program, and the state’s General Fund; and, established a new stream of tax revenue to local governments that host casinos for community projects.
