2012 Slot Machine Revenue Rises In Pennsylvania For the Sixth Consecutive Year
HARRISBURG, PA: The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board reported today that gross revenue from slot machine gaming for the 2012 calendar year of January through December was $2,470,935,317, or 2.7% higher than in calendar year 2011 when gross revenue totaled $2,405,867,897.
PGCB Chairman William H. Ryan, Jr. says it was the sixth year in a row that Pennsylvania saw an increase in revenue from slot machine gaming, and that tax revenue generated from the play of slots during 2012 was more than $1.3 billion. The first slot machines began operating in the Commonwealth in November 2006.
“While competition for gaming dollars from bordering states will continue to escalate, the revenue results from legalized casino gaming in Pennsylvania continue to be strong,” Ryan says. “In addition, a healthy casino industry has resulted in the employment of more than 16,000 persons, stability in the Commonwealth’s horse racing industry, funds for major economic development and community-based projects, and property tax relief for all Pennsylvania homeowners.”
Gross slot machine revenue produced at each casino during 2012 compared to 2011, including percentage change, is as follows:

The Board also posted its monthly slot machine revenue report for December which showed a small decrease of 2% in gross revenue over December of 2011. According to figures posted on the Board’s web site, www.gamingcontrolboard.pa.gov, the play of slot machines at the eleven operating casinos produced $195,049,653 in gross revenue in December 2012, compared to the $199,062,596 in gross revenue generated in December 2011. The average combined number of slot machines operating daily was 26,476 in December 2012 compared to 26,418 in December 2011.
Tax generated by the Commonwealth from slot machine play last month was $104,797,969. Pennsylvania taxes slot machines at 55%.

About the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board:
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board was established in 2004 with the passage of Act 71, also known as the Race Horse Development and Gaming Act. Pennsylvania’s first new state agency in nearly 30 years, the Gaming Control Board is tasked to oversee all aspects of the state’s casino industry. The 11 casinos in operation all offer both slot machine and table game gambling, employ over 16,000 people, and collectively generate an average of $4 million per day in tax revenue. A portion of that money is used for property tax reduction to all Pennsylvania homeowners; provide funds to the Commonwealth’s horse racing industry, fire companies, a statewide water and sewer project grant program, and the state’s General Fund; and, established a new stream of tax revenue to local governments that host casinos for community projects.
