2012 Pennsylvania Gaming Diversity Report Provides Statewide And Individual Casino Data

HARRISBURG, PA: Information on the activities of Pennsylvania casinos to meet the goals of enhanced representation of diverse groups in the gaming industry and the creation of quality living wage jobs for residents of the Commonwealth is available in the fifth annual Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board Gaming Diversity Report.

The report, required under the Pennsylvania Race Horse Development and Gaming Act, is available for download on the Board's website home page, www.gamingcontrolboard.pa.gov.

The 2011-12 Gaming Diversity Report includes statewide and individual casino statistics on:

    • Employment trends by race and gender
    • Construction and non-construction expenditures with minority businesses
    • Charitable donations
    • The overall number of Pennsylvanians employed at casinos and, in particular, the number of state     • residents employed for table games
    • Racial breakdown for Executive/Management/Professional staff

"Evidence of the casinos commitment to promoting diversity in employment, purchasing and philanthropy as set forth in the statute is clear and convincing," said Mozelle Daniels, the Board's Director of Diversity. "Additionally, casinos continue to focus on the importance and fundamental value of local businesses, Minority Business Enterprises and Women Business Enterprises by purchasing more than $333 million in goods and services from them in the last state fiscal year."
Some highlights from the report, with figures through June 30, 2012:

    • Of the 2,995 Executive/ Management /Professional staff
        • 64% are Male
        • 36% are Female
        • 23% are Minorities
    • Of the 16,406 casino employees
        • 14,527 are Pennsylvanians (89%)
        • 6,999 are female (43%)
        • 9,407 are male (57%)
        • 29% are minorities
    • Spent more than $440 million with service providers including:
        • $213 million with local businesses
        • $32 million with Minority Business Enterprises and Women Business Enterprises

About the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board:
The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board was established in 2004 with the passage of Act 71, also known as the Race Horse Development and Gaming Act. Pennsylvania's first new state agency in nearly 30 years, the Gaming Control Board is tasked to oversee all aspects of the state's casino industry. The 11 casinos in operation all offer both slot machine and table game gambling, employ over 16,000 people, and collectively generate an average of $4 million per day in tax revenue. A portion of that money is used for property tax reduction to all Pennsylvania homeowners; provide funds to the Commonwealth's horse racing industry, fire companies, a statewide water and sewer project grant program, and the state's General Fund; and, established a new stream of tax revenue to local governments that host casinos for community projects.
