Sojka Takes Oath As Newest Member of Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board

HARRISBURG: Gary Sojka was sworn in yesterday as the newest member of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board during its regular meeting in Harrisburg.

“This is both a tremendous challenge and an exciting way for me to help and protect the interests of the citizens of Pennsylvania” said Sojka, who received the oath of office from PA Commonwealth Court Judge Mary Hannah Leavitt.

Sojka, whose appointment was made by House Minority Leader Sam Smith, served as both President of Bucknell University in Lewisburg from 1984 to 1995 and a faculty member and an administrator at the university from 1984 to 2006. He resides in Middleburg, Snyder County.

“We are very pleased with Representative Smith’s choice of Gary Sojka to bring his talents to the Gaming Board,” said Chairman Tad Decker. “His perspectives are unique and his commitment level great. All members of the Board are excited to begin working with Commissioner Sojka as we continue to roll out legalized slots gaming in Pennsylvania.”

Also at today’s Board meeting, approvals were given to the floor plan and internal controls plan for Presque Isle Down in Erie. In addition, two members of the Board, Commissioners Sanford Rivers and Ken McCabe, were given the authority to determine the successful completion of Presque Isle’s test period, held on February 24th and 26th, and to authorize the effective date and time which slot operations may commence. Presque Isle opened today at 9:00 am, with 2,000 slot machines.

The Board also approved a Manufacturer’s License for Ainsworth Game Technology Limited, headquartered in New South Wales, Australia. Ainsworth becomes the 15th company to gain approval to hold a Manufacturer’s License in Pennsylvania.
