Revenue From Slot Machines Nearly 8% Higher This September
HARRISBURG, PA: The Pennsylvania casino industry, now with 10 operating facilities after the opening of SugarHouse Casino in Philadelphia, saw an overall revenue increase of 7.8% in September 2010 compared to September 2009.
The Gaming Control Board reported today that slot machines produced gross revenue of $186,365,015 in September of this year and $102,220,135 in tax revenue. That compares to $172,854,995 in gross revenue and $95,068,077 in tax revenue during September 2009. Slot machine revenue is taxed at 55%.
In a comparison of the revenue for just the nine casinos operating in September 2010 that were also opened for the full month of September last year, there was an increase of 5.09%. The ninth casino to begin operations, The Rivers, opened on August 9, 2009, and therefore for the first time was utilized for this type of comparison.
Gross revenue for each of the casinos operating in September 2010 is as follows, with percentage change reflected for those casinos that were operating in both years:

The average number of slot machines operating statewide daily during September 2010 was 25,833 compared to 24,924 in September of 2009.

The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board was established in 2004 with the passage of Act 71, also known as the Race Horse Development and Gaming Act.
