Ken Trujillo Sworn In As New Member of PA Gaming Control Board

HARRISBURG: Kenneth I. Trujillo was sworn in as the newest member of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board during its regular meeting held Wednesday in Harrisburg.

Named to the Board by Governor Edward G. Rendell on November 25, 2009 to replace original Board member Sanford Rivers, Trujillo took his oath of office from Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas Judge M. Teresa Sarmina.

Under the Pennsylvania Race Horse Development and Gaming Act, three of the seven members of the Gaming Control Board are appointed by the Governor for three year terms, including one who is designated as Chairman.

“I am honored to join an immensely talented group of professionals and hope my experience can help ensure Pennsylvania citizens benefit from gaming,” Trujillo says. “I also look forward to working to combat underage and problem gambling.”

Gaming Control Board Chairman Greg Fajt agrees that Trujillo will bring a wide-array of talents and experience to the position.

“Ken Trujillo has not only been a leader in everything he has undertaken, but has a strong history of being an effective mediator that brings consensus to difficult situations,” Fajt says.

Trujillo, a member of the Philadelphia-based law firm of Trujillo Rodriguez & Richards, LLC, has also served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney and the City Solicitor of Philadelphia. During his tenure with the City, Trujillo represented the Mayor, City Council and all departments, agencies and commissions of the City of Philadelphia. In addition, Mr. Trujillo sat on the Mayor’s cabinet and ran the 155-lawyer Law Department. During Mr. Trujillo’s tenure, the Law Department instituted a number of significant initiatives. For example, Mr. Trujillo played a major role in the planning of the Republican National Convention and advised the Mayor in implementing the Neighborhood Transformation Initiative and the development of the Eagles stadium and Phillies ballpark.

As City Solicitor, Mr. Trujillo also spearheaded and led economic development missions to Mexico. In 2005, the Mexican government presented Trujillo with the Ohtli Award, one of the highest awards given to non-Mexican citizens by the Mexican government.

Trujillo is Chair of the Board of Directors for both Congreso de Latinos Unidos, Inc. and the Greater Philadelphia Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, serves as the Vice Chair of the Board of Directors of Health Partners, and was recently elected to the Kimmel Center Board of Directors. He is a past President of the Hispanic Bar Association of Pennsylvania and Vice-Chair of the National Council of La Raza. He also is a past member of the Board of Governors of the Philadelphia Bar Association, has been a member of the boards of directors of Community Legal Services, Inc., Philadelphia Volunteers for the Indigent Program (VIP) and Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Philadelphia, Inc., and in 2008 was appointed to President-Elect Barack Obama’s Presidential Transition Team and serves as a Lecturer of Law at the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
