PGCB�s Director of Compulsive And Problem Gambling To Play Key Role Developing National Center For Responsible Gaming Conference

HARRISBURG: Nanette Horner, the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board’s Director of Compulsive and Problem Gambling, has been chosen to participate on a new advisory board to the National Center for Responsible Gaming’s (NCRG) Annual Conference on Gambling and Addiction.

Gaming Control Board Chairman Mary DiGiacomo Colins says Horner’s participation in this important advisory board falls in lockstep with a chief goal of this agency.

“Nanette’s expertise will help guide the NCRG’s conference in selecting themes, topics and speakers that will assist clinicians, academics, public health workers, gaming industry representatives, government officials and regulators share valuable lessons learned in the field of gambling addiction and research,” Colins says. “From the creation of a director-level position to strict adherence by slots casino operators of their problem gambling plans, Pennsylvania has a strong commitment to making sure that the public’s interest is met in this important area.”

Horner says she is honored to be involved with the NCRG Conference Advisory Board.
“I look forward to the opportunity to direct the conference towards utilizing relevant topics and new research in the continuing effort to both develop and advance best regulatory practices, prevention programs and educational materials related to problem gambling,” Horner says.

In making the appointment, NCRG Chairman Glenn Christenson says he was appreciative that the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board is allowing Horner to lend her talents to the newly created Advisory Board.

“As a key responsible gaming stakeholder and longtime supporter of this conference, we are honored to have Nanette lend her expertise to this important group,” Christenson said.

The National Center for Responsible Gaming is the only national organization exclusively devoted to funding research that helps increase understanding of pathological and youth gambling and find effective methods of treatment for the disorder. Founded in 1996, the NCRG is the American Gaming Association’s (AGA) affiliated charity and is devoted to public education and funding of peer-reviewed research on disordered gambling.

Horner, who joined the Board’s Office of Chief Counsel in 2005, was named the first Director of the Office of Compulsive and Problem Gambling in September, 2006.
